Nestlé Nourishes Students With Nutritional Talk

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • As part of its ‘Reaching Out to Community and Kids’ (ROCKS) Employee Volunteer Programme, Nestlé Malaysia organised a ROCKS Nutritional Talk for the Dignity for Children Foundation to share nutritional knowledge with the children.
  • This initiative was held to kick-start Nestlé Malaysia’s Education Through ROCKS (ETR) initiative which aims to inculcate education in community projects.

The world’s leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company recently organised a Nutritional Talk for almost 150 underprivileged school children from the Dignity for Children Foundation. As part of Nestlé Malaysia’s Reaching Out to Community and Kids’ (ROCKS) Employee Volunteer Programme, the talk highlighted the importance of embracing nutritious and healthy eating habits. This also marked the start of Nestlé’s Education Through ROCKS initiative (ETR), which aims to inculcate education in community projects.

Led by Nestlé employees, fondly known as ‘ROCKers’, two ROCKS Nutritional Talk sessions were organised; one for students from morning schools, and another for students from afternoon schools. Each session was attended by approximately 75 students from the ages of 12 to 16 years old, beginning with a brief introduction to Nestlé, covering the Company’s Creating Shared Value philosophy.

This was then followed by a session on nutrition headed by Nestlé’s nutritionists, Lim Chain Yin and Nurul Iliani Ahmad. Based on the theme, ‘Healthy Lifestyle’, the educational talk highlighted the importance and benefits of eating nutritious and balanced meals. Along with gaining insights on nutrition, the students also had the opportunity to participate in interactive activities. This included building food pyramids, creating nutritionally-balanced meal plates in groups as well as quizzes to test their nutritional knowledge.

Nestlé’s nutritionist, Nurul Iliani Ahmad said, “The time we spent with the students was very fulfilling. Through these sessions, we were able to impart essential nutritional knowledge, which will certainly set these children along a healthier and happier path growing up. Besides all the fun hands-on activities, each child gained a positive perspective on eating nutritious food and leading healthier lifestyles.”

Excited chatter was heard throughout the sessions, as the participants applied their newfound nutritional knowledge in the educational activities. Students vied to do their best in the activities as there were attractive ROCKS prizes such as exclusive ROCKS Thermocafe mugs, face towels, and caps given out to winners. In addition, there was also a Q&A session for the students to learn more about healthy lifestyles.

At the end of the eventful day, the children were excited to share their experiences during the sessions with the ROCKers. Each participant also received a goody bag filled with Nestlé products and nutritious snacks, in line with the theme of the day.

According to Anna, 14 years old from the Dignity for Children Foundation, “Today’s Nutrition Talk was very helpful as it helped me understand healthy living and ensures that we eat balanced meals. I truly enjoyed taking part in the fun activities with my friends.”

Zainun Nur Abdul Rauf, Executive Director of Group Corporate Affairs, Nestlé Malaysia said, “Today’s ROCKS Nutrition Talk reflects our Creating Shared Value philosophy, whereby it is possible to do well as a Company by doing good for the society in which we operate. We are delighted to teach these school children about good nutritional food to lead a good and healthy life. The ROCKS Nutritional Talk marks the first of our ETR initiatives and we look forward to organising similar educational sessions in future.”
