Nestlé Malaysia Serves Up Healthy Fun for International Chefs Day

Petaling Jaya

Bright colours and unique shapes made out of fruit and vegetables were the order of the day, as Nestlé Malaysia treated over 200 children from Pusat Jagaan Lambaian Kasih, Yayasan Chow Kit, Trinity Kids and Victory Academy, to a delicious afternoon of food and fun!

Following the success of its inaugural International Chefs Day celebration last year, Nestlé joined forces with the Professional Culinaire Association of Malaysia (PCA) for its 2016 celebration. Themed ‘Art on a Plate’, this year’s celebration featured 40 chefs from PCA along with popular International Food Artist, Samantha Lee, whose whimsical food creations using fresh and healthy ingredients have become both locally and internationally recognised.

With her one-of-a-kind method of ‘storytelling’ through meals, Lee demonstrated two food artworks for the excited children – an ‘Under the Sea’ theme as well as a lion. Her creations easily captivated the imaginations of the young participants, who leapt at the chance to try their hand at creating masterpieces of their own, alongside the PCA chefs who added to the joyous atmosphere with creations of their own. The top 10 creative entries, which included a space rocket, a cat, sea creatures and more, saw the lucky winners taking home RM50 AEON Voucher and a limited edition Nestlé Healthy Kids School Bag.

Nestlé Malaysia’s Managing Director, Mr. Alois Hofbauer, said, “As the world’s leading Nutrition, Health and Wellness Company, we are passionately dedicated to encouraging healthier lifestyles, particularly in children. We believe it is important to instil good eating habits from an early age, and involving them in cooking and meal preparation is a great way to do so. This celebration is also aligned with Nestlé’s business philosophy of Creating Shared Value, as we believe that to create long-term value for the company, we must first create value for the community.”

Chef Chern Chee Hong, Advisor of PCA, added, “All of us from PCA are glad to have been a part of Nestlé’s International Chefs Day celebration. We strongly believe that it is important to nurture the habit of eating well in children from a young age, especially as more families eat out these days. It was heartening to be able to do our part by showing the children that healthy food can be tasty too!”

Nestlé’s International Chefs Day celebration was held as part of an ongoing collaboration between Nestlé Professional and World Chef, first formed in 2014, to help educate future chefs about nutrition. Building on this partnership, this year’s celebration was organised with the aim of raising children’s awareness on healthy eating by unleashing their creativity with food.

According to Jasmmine Wong, Country Business Manager, Nestlé Professional Malaysia and Singapore, “We at Nestlé Professional are delighted to once again partner with Professional Culinaire Association of Malaysia to celebrate International Chefs Day in a very meaningful way, by promoting healthy eating to children. Together with our Chef partners, we can use creativity and fun learning experiences to educate our future generation on good eating habits from a young age.”

The celebration was also in line with its Nestlé Healthy Kids (NHK) Programme, a global initiative which aims to promote children’s nutrition, health and well-being around the world. NHK was first launched in Malaysia in 2010 in collaboration with the Ministry of Education Malaysia and the Nutrition Society of Malaysia, promoting healthy eating and active lifestyles to over 10,000 students nationwide. Globally, the NHK Programme has reached out to over 8 million children in 84 countries to date.
