Beginning with a wildlife cruise along the lower Kinabatangan River, the visiting team spotted Hornbill birds & Proboscis monkeys before they were briefed on the progress of the project, which aims to replant 2,400ha of degraded riparian forests along the river, over three years. Participants were taken to the operation centre, nursery, research sites and planting sites before doing their part by planting a few forest seedlings.
The visit also allowed participants to experience firsthand Nestlé's active involvement in encouraging rural development by working with and purchasing forest seedlings from the local community comprising of entrepreneurs from four villages. The trip also provided a chance for the participants to learn more on Nestlé's commitment to promote Oil Palm sustainability among the local smallholders in the area.
