Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme Launched to Address Under Nutrition and Obesity

The Nestlé Healthy Kids(NHK) Programme in Malaysia was launched on 7 August at Royale Bintang Hotel, Mutiara Damansara by Deputy Director General of Education (Education Operations), Ministry of Education Dato’ Hjh Noor Rezan bt Bapoo Hashim, together with Director of Group Corporate Affairs & Human Resource Pn. Zainun Nur Abdul Rauf and President of the Nutrition Society of Malaysia (NSM) Dr. Tee E. Siong. Themed “Let’s Be Healthy!”, the Programme in Malaysia in collaboration with NSM aims to improve the nutrition knowledge and promote healthy lifestyles among school children aged between 7-12 years old, while empowering them to lead healthier lifestyles through better eating, exercise and other key health measures such as hygiene. Apart from launching the NHK website, a Parent-Child Nutrition Workshop was held, where a panel of nutritionists and a psychologist were on hand to discuss topics such as meals, physical activity and supplements. A healthy cooking demonstration by celebrity chef – Florence Tan closed the day-long event. Designed in collaboration with health and nutrition professional bodies, national health authorities, child nutrition experts and educational foundations of the respective countries, the NHK Programme hopes to educate children, parents and teachers as well as canteen operators through Parent-Child Workshops, access to a website which contains educational tools and interactive games, school roadshows, as well as educational collaterals for children. Globally, the NHK Programme has been running for several years and has reached approximately four million children and will continue to extend to all countries where Nestlé has operations by the end of 2011.
